Esko defeated Hermantown soundly 3-0, despite Hermantown beating them twice during the season (once in a tournament), while Hibbing defeated Cloquet 3-0 section 7AA volleyball semi-final matches in Grand Rapids, November 4, 2009. This season I'm shooting UMD Women's hockey games for another section of my website. This season the UMD women are playing with less players, while a bunch of them are off getting ready for the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver.

Duluth's Gina Dodge has been getting a lot of ice time and taking a lot of important faceoffs, including powerplays and shorthanded.

Cloquet Volleyball Opens Playoffs with 3-0 Win

On October 13th, Cloquet dominated Proctor, winning 3 games to 0. October 28th was no different as the Lumberjacks dominated Proctor again winning 3 games to 0 in the first round of the 7AA playoffs.

#8 Duluth Central Upsets #1 Seed Cloquet 7AAAA Football Playoffs

8th seed Duluth Central used a 3 headed monster of QB #27 Steve Knuth, RB #23 Luke Johannessen, and FB #44 Joey Janchar, to control the ball in the first half and build a 20-0 lead before Cloquet finally got on the board in the 4th quarter. RaRa Jones and Corbin Morse caught Tyler Tollerud touchdown passes in the 4th quarter but the defense couldn't make one last stand to get the ball back in the last 3 minutes, thus Central won over #1 seed Cloquet 20-14.

Cloquet Girls Soccer Wins Section 7A Championship

In their third meeting of the year (each team won a match), the Lumberjacks knocked beat the Eskomos 2-1 at Public Schools Stadium in Duluth, to win the Section 7A championship and return to the state tournament. Lena Swander scored in the first half off a Courtney Esse pass for Cloquet, putting a ball just under the crossbar, while Kate Marquis scored for Esko/Carlton early in the second half to tie the game. Cloquet's Jessie Ryan scored the game winner not too long after on a 60+ yard solo sprint to the net, putting a shot to the far post and past the goaltender for the 2-1 lead.

The Cloquet volleyball team ended the home portion of it's regular season in style, dominating the Proctor Rails, winning 3 games to 0 October 13, 2009.

The Lumberjacks scored a goal in each half to beat Duluth Marshall 2-0 at Hilltop Park in Cloquet, October 11, 2009. Emily Johnson and Hailey Basset scored for the Lumberjacks, who hit 3 crossbars and a post in the game as well.

Cloquet scored a goal in each the first (Haley Bassett) and second half (Lena Swander), but Esko Carlton scored three goals after Swander's goal, by Amanda Bergstedt, Kate Marquis, and Tess Mattson to win the game 3-2.

Marshall School got second half goals from Gunnar Sengbush and Connor Erickson to beat the Lumberjack boys soccer team 2-0 in an extremely windy & cold match at Hilltop Park in Cloquet, October 1, 2009.

 

Lumberjack Girls Soccer Routs Grand Rapids 8-0

The Lumberjack girls soccer team defeated Grand Rapids 8-0, with help from 2 Courtney Esse goals, and 2 Katie Pappas header goals off corner kicks. The Lumberjacks had a 3-0 lead 13 minutes into the match.

Cloquet Volleyball Downs Duluth Marshall 3 Games to 1

The Lumberjacks beat the Duluth Marshall Hilltoppers 3 games to 1 in Duluth, September 24, 2009. The teams split the first two games and the Lumberjacks took the next two games to win the match.

CEC Soccer Beats Hibbing 2-0

The CEC Lumberjacks soccer team beat the Hibbing Bluejackets 2-0 at Hilltop Park in Cloquet, September 22, 2009. Tyler Goabel scored the first CEC goal and Josiah Barrett scored the second goal on a penalty kick placed just under the crossbar for the 2-0 win.

Cloquet Football Beats Virignia, Improves to 3-0

RaRa Jones broke open a tight 7-6 first half score by returning the second half kickoff for a touchdown, helping Cloquet run to a 30-6 lead when the second team offense/defense took over for the Lumberjacks.
